The SHLAA forms a key part of the evidence base for the Local Development Framework and in particular the Joint Core Strategy.

The primary role of the SHLAA is to:

  • Identify sites with potential for housing.

  • Assess their housing potential.

  • Assess when they are likely to be developed.

The SHLAA does not determine or make recommendations as to whether particular sites should be allocated for housing development nor does the SHLAA determine whether planning permission should be granted.

Please note that SHLAA has now been replaced with the Strategic Assessment of Land Availability (SALA).
